After graduating from NYU Susan Seidelman did what many filmmakers did in the eighties and made an indie film on a shoe string budget which received critical acclaim,\u00a0Smithereens<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(1982).<\/p>\n

Following the success of\u00a0Smithereens<\/em> Seidelman went on to make the classic\u00a0Desperately Seeking Susan<\/a><\/em> giving her neighbor Madonna her first film role<\/p>\n
