A producer once told her, \u201cFeature films are expensive to make and expensive to market and women directors are one more problem we don\u2019t need.\u201d In response \u00a0her husband insisted that they raise the funds and give her the chance to make a movie.<\/p>\n

Silver went on to direct\u00a0Hester Street<\/a> (1975)\u00a0<\/em>and along with her husband and a few others successfully self distributed – before the age of the internet.<\/p>\n
