Her documentary feature Los Wild Ones (2013) survived some controversy in the courts with the investor of the film making its way to SXSW and can be watched online.

JENA SERBU began her film career as a production designer and in the theatre, founding the non-profit company Uncut Productions to create work in multiple medias.

Her feature film Smartass (2015) is loosely based on her experiences as a teenager.

Bite-sized blog post: Christina Kallas

CHRISTINA KALLAS’ feature film 42 Seconds of Happiness (2016) was an immersive experience for the actors, rehearsed for a year and a half and shot in five days. It is now on the festival circuit and will be screened at the Orlando Film Festival this month. She has also been nominated for the Emerging Director Award of the New Filmmakers Forum at this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival.

Kallas teaches at both Columbia and The New School in New York City. She has written several books about the art of screenwriting and film.

DANA NACHMAN began her career as a journalist and worked on documentaries in the Bay Area for NBC.

Her first feature documentary Witch Hunt (2008) was narrated by Sean Penn and addresses inadequacies in the criminal justice system.

JENNIFER SIEBEL NEWSOM’s feature directorial debut Miss Representation (2011) tackled representations of women in the media.

Newsom has also worked as an actor in film and television and has a business degree from Stanford. Her second documentary The Mask You Live in (2015) looks at masculinity in American society.

Bite-sized blog: Jennifer Congdon

JESSICA CONGDON co-directed the documentary Race to Nowhere (2010) with Vicki Abeles. She produced, edited and wrote Miss Representation (2011) and works regularly as an editor.

Congdon studied at UC Berkeley and the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently directing a series on food and travel Places and Plates.

VICKI ABELES is an advocate for children and families as well as a filmmaker. Her feature documentary film Beyond Measure is about the American educational system.

Abeles was an associate producer on Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s Miss Representation (2010) after directing her first documentary Race to Nowhere (2010) which she has self distributed.

ELENA ROSSINI directed the documentary feature film The Illusionists (2015) which is “a feature-length documentary about the marketing of unattainable beauty ideals around the world.”

Rossini also started a multimedia project “celebrating the professional lives of women and providing real role models for the younger generations.” NO COUNTRY FOR YOUNG WOMEN
