Her short film Gasman (1996) won her the  Cannes Prix du Jury. Her feature Ratcatcher (1999) was then screened at Cannes.

Her first feature film Conceiving Ada (1997) premiered at Sundance where she also screened subsequent films, including her hybrid film Strange Culture (2007) which was also exhibited on the Sundance Channel.

SUSANNE BIER is a Danish director nonetheless she has made her mark in the United States, winning the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 2011 for her film In a Better World (2010) – the year after Bigelow won the Oscar for Hurt Locker (2009).

In June of this year it was announced that Bier was on the shortlist to potentially direct the next Bond film.
