SUSANNE BIER is a Danish director nonetheless she has made her mark in the United States, winning the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 2011 for her film In a Better World (2010) – the year after Bigelow won the Oscar for Hurt Locker (2009).

In June of this year it was announced that Bier was on the shortlist to potentially direct the next Bond film.

Jennifer Lee

JENNIFER LEE is one of the directors of Frozen (2013) which was one of only two films in 2013 in the top 100 box office films directed by a woman and garnered her the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

She wrote the screenplay adaptation for A Wrinkle in Time (2017) for Disney which will be directed by Ava Duvernay.

Since the success of Kung Fu Panda (2 and 3) Yuh has been slated to direct her first live-action film  The Darkest Minds.

BRENDA CHAPMAN was the first woman to direct an animated feature for a studio with Dreamworks’ Prince of Egypt (1998).

She co-directed Pixar’s Brave (2012) making her also the first woman to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Sofia Coppola

SOFIA COPPOLA began her career as a still photographer and actress in her famous father’s films, playing an infant in a christening scene in The Godfather (1972).  She learned all about making movies first hand by growing up in the industry and after directing a few shorts made her first feature film The Virgin Suicides (1999) which premiered at Sundance.

She was the third woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director with her film Lost in Translation (2003) for which she won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
