Vanessa Hope

VANESSA HOPE directed several shorts about China before embarking on her feature length documentary film All Eyes and Ears (2015) addressing US-China relations.

Before becoming a filmmaker Hope studied law and worked in foreign policy. She is fluent in Chinese and and produced a web series for NYU’s U.S.-Asia Law Institute called Law, Life & Asia.

SHUNDELL PRASAD is a documentarian and narrative fiction filmmaker. She grew up in New York City where she studied film at NYU and is of Indo-Carribean descent which gives her many different perspectives for the stories she tells.

Her narrative fiction feature Festival of Lights (2010) tells the story of a young woman from NYC going to Guyana to discover the truth about her family’s past.

ANN MARIE “JADE” BRYAN is the first (and only at the moment) deaf person to graduate from the NYU film production program. She received her BFA and went on to a non-profit DeafVision Filmworks.

She has worked in narrative and documentary and continues to break barriers. Her feature length fiction film If You Could Hear My Own Tune (2011) is about a deaf women looking for love.

Darnell Martin

DARNELL MARTIN was rejected three times from NYU film school before finally attending to get her MFA. While not getting into NYU she was working on sets and finally was accepted after a personal recommendation from Spike Lee who she worked with as an AC on Do The Right Thing.

Martin is touted as the first African American female to direct a studio film with her first feature I Like It Like That (1994). She has gone on to direct the feature film Cadillac Records (2008) and an adaptation of Zora Neal Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005) as well as numerous television series.

Anita W. Addison

One of the first African American women to hold a senior producer position at a major television network ANITA W. ADDISON directed television for major television shows in the eighties and nineties.

Before taking on the network career she took film classes at NYU and attended UCLA at night in order to get her Masters – after she obtained a Masters in journalism from Columbia and analyzed data for Nielsen ratings for a small independent station. Her short film Savannah was nominated for an Academy Award in 1984.
